Identity crisis
Identity is a tricky subject, especially nowadays. People want to identify with so many different things, so many different groups. Often times people have no idea who they really are, they just want to belong to something bigger than themselves. I'm not saying there's something necessarily wrong with that but what I see happening a lot is people sell themselves the dream that's, not theirs. So now that you're in this place of living a lie you continue with the lie cause you've told yourself the lie so many times you started to believe it. I had two options at that point, 1 continues to do it anyway cause that's the identity I sold to people was or 2 find what it was that I actually wanted to do. You go through your life believing that that thing is you so you identify with it, once you identify with it people identify you like it.
You create this image of yourself based on that thing or idea to the point where you lose that actual identity which would be yourself, but that's not so hard to see seeing that you're moving based on that image that you thought was you. That's happened to me I have been a boxer for more than half of my life, more than 14 years now although I am grateful for all the things I've gained from it, I came to realize that it just simply wasn't for me and that's okay. Literally, thousands of hours spent on trying to perfect the craft, blood, sweat, and tears. Fighting in front of thousands of people. I trained my whole life in a brutally damaging sport just to get to the point where I reached this deep profound realization that it was simply not what I wanted to do anymore and like I said that's okay. I decided to go with number 2, it took a while and it wasn't easy but that's beside the point, I did it. I know a lot of people reading might be thinking ah man that was me when I got into the fire department or that was me when I became a police officer. Well, yea it happens more than people like to admit, it's uncomfortable to admit and difficult to change but if you sincerely believe that your happiness is paramount then you should probably invest in making that decision. It's not the end of the world.
Life is short and hard enough as is. If the people around you can't accept the fact that you're, not that image you painted then with all due respect, FUCK EM!. If you don't want to take what I have to say into consideration that's fine but look at some of the most influential people throughout history, you don't think that they've gone through this let's say identity crisis? Anthony Bourdain was 40 when he got any time of fame or money, do you think he went through some type of identity crisis? My guess would be, absolutely. People think that that crisis is always a downward one, that's not the case all the time. Sometimes it's just a change in whats your actual day to day norm at the time. some people don't ask for what they're given and I would say most people don't know how to handle what they're given. It's up to you to actually decide what you want and also what you need.
People's opinions mean a lot to people but the most important person in your life is you and if it's not then that in itself is a problem.
